Medu Vada

Medu Vada is the most popular south Indian dish in India. Medu Vada  is a South Indian Dish. It can Mostly made during the festival time. Medu Vada to get Snack corners And Hotels also. It is very healthy to eat. Its taste is very delicious and Crispy outside and soft inside. It can make this Medu Vada easily available ingredients at home. It can make this Medu Vada in 20 minutes after soaking in urad dal and rice batter. Medu vada can make everyone at home now. There are many types of making this Medu Vada dish. It is very easy to make without any putting efforts by making Medu Vada. Medu vada is the combination of Urad Dal and Boiled Rice, salt and some spices. Mudu Vada can be served as a snack or starter and side dish by lunch and dinner time.

  • 3 Bowl Urad Dal (White Lentil) (Medium size bowl Urad dal)
  • 1 bowl Boiled Rice (Medium Size bowl)
  • 1 tsp Cumin Seeds
  • 5 to 6 Curry Leaves (Finely chopped)
  • 2 green chillies(Finely chopped)
  • 2 tsp coconut (small sliced)
  • 1 inch ginger (Roughly chopped)
  • 1 ½  Tsp salt
  • 7 tsp Water
  • 350 ml of Oil


  • First take a one bowl then transfer into the 3 medium size bowls of Urad dal and wash it for 3 times. And add ½ glass of water to soak them for 4 hours.
  • Then take another bowl and transfer into the 1 medium size of Boiled rice and wash it for 3 times. And add ½ glass of water to soak them for at least 4 hours.
  • After 4 hours Grind it with Urad dal and add 1 tsp of cumin seeds, Roughly chopped ginger and add 4 tsp to 5 tsp of water to form a smooth paste. And pour into the other bowl. (Grind this Urad Dal Batter 2 batches).

  • In the same way soaked boiled rice also grinds it to the fine paste to add 2 to 3 tsp of water. And pour into the same urad dal bowl.
  • Then urad dal batter and boiled rice batter mix well.
  • After that add into the 5 to 6 finely chopped curry leaves, add finely chopped 2 green chilli and add 2 tsp of small sliced coconut and all to mix well. Mix for 4 to 5 minutes for fluffy batter. (Make sure that batter should be thick).

  • Then urad dal batter and boiled rice batter mix well.
  • Turn on the gas flame, put it on a kadai, add 350 ml oil and heat the oil on high flame.
  • After that wet your hand then take a lemon size ball of batter, give it up a few flips and write hand insert the thumb centre in the vada and give the whole centre of Medu Vada. (Medu Vada gives them a donut size shape) and drops this Medu Vada in hot oil.

  • Make sure that at the time 4 to 5 medu vada can be fry otherwise it can absorb more oil.
  • And fry Medu Vada on medium flame till them get golden colour

  • Same method to make All medu vada.
  • All Medu Vada Ready to serve.
  • Serve this hot Medu Vada with Coconut chutney and sambar, Tomato Chutney.
